Shergar Cup Day . . .
It is the very novel Shergar Cup day at Ascot today . . . Racing starts rather early at 12.55pm, when we have one declared runners – GOLDREAM. We also have FREE ZONE as third on the list of reserves. He has had to travel to the races just in case three decided not to race come midday . . . GOLDREAM is in excellent order this season. We have been ever so careful to space his racing out correctly for him and he seems to be thriving on this approach. He will race for the rest of the world team who will all wear a variation of Yellow and Black colours. It is an unusual meeting where by all horses declared do not race in their usual owners colours but instead race in team colours – Irish (Green & Black), European ( Blue & Black), Ladies (Pink & Black) & The Rest of The World ( Yellow & black) and we do not get to choose our own Jockey. Goldream was allocated Craig A William from Australia . . . This is a drop down in trip for GOLDREAM, having won and raced over 6f, however the stiff 5f at Ascot should suit today providing they do not get too much more rainfall . . .
