Cardinal Strikes Gold . . .
We were delighted to witness Cardinal strike gold at Wolverhampton yesterday afternoon and get us off the mark for 2013 . . .
He ran a superb race over the minimum trip. He had ran well 19 days previously at Wolverhampton over 6f, finishing 3rd, so he was seemingly in good form with himself. We know he likes Wolverhampton, and due to the weather being so arctic we had an idea they might just need to harrow the track deeper which Cardinal would love, being by Pivotal and adoring soft ground. He had Tom Eaves back on board again following that good run earlier in the month, and they just sat at the back , letting the front runners blast from the gates and he picked them all off nicely to win in some style by about two lengths.
We are all delighted to get the first winner of 2013 but also ecstatic for his owner, Mrs J May, who has been so patient waiting for the right ground and conditions for her eight-year-old horse . . . Hopefully he will have a successful campaign in 2013, he has certainly started it well anyway! . . .
