Latest From Bottisham Heath Stud . . .
It has been a beautiful sunny day here in Newmarket, which is great news for all the horses. They all start to have that extra spring in their step (like we all do!) when the warmer weather starts to appear. Their summer coat will all of a sudden materialise, which makes such a difference to how they feel . . . All the string are out daily and lots are inching ever closer to being ready to make their seasonal débuts . . .
Mean while on the stud, this better weather means we are all out in force doing lots of work maintaining the stud . . . All our paddocks have now been fertilised. One rainy day this week was very gratefully received, meaning it all gets in to the ground quicker and the grass will start to come through thick and fast now – Before we know it, the tractor will be out again topping! It is wonderful to see everything growing again and looking lush … The new ride on lawnmower has been in full work since its purchase a few weeks ago and the grass verges around the stud are looking very smart . . . A fencing program will start in earnest again to keep up the maintenance of all the paddocks. Plus, sadly a lot of plumbing and electrical work is needed in our tack room and horse shower area, which will no doubt upset the boss on the costs to come his way very soon!!
On our international front, SPEED HAWK continues to do well in Dubai. He will be doing his final pre-World Cup gallop early next week and we are all very excited to see him on the main stage in just over a weeks time (Saturday, 28th March). It of course is a tough ask, being a Group 1, however he now has plenty of race experience on the Dirt surface and hopefully this will work in his favour. We are delighted Andrea Atzeni will be booked on board once again . . .
