Group 1 Nunthorpe Stakes . . .
Today we have three runners in the Coolmore Nunthorpe Stakes, the Group 1 sprint for two-year-olds and upwards at 3.40pm. Jwala, Spirit Quartz and Kingsgate Native line up for what will be a very exciting dash to claim the £154,534.00 prize and the Group 1 title.
Jwala will have Steve Drowne back on board for Manor Farm Stud. Having won on her in the Listed prep race in July, we know she likes York. She ran what appeared to be a very disappointing race at Goodwood at the Glorious meeting three weeks ago. However it was made clear after the race she had hit the stalls just before the gates opened, which will have dented her performance greatly . . . Spirit Quartz, will have Jamie Spencer on board for Qatar Racing Limited. He ran a good race in the King George at Goodwood a few weeks ago, under a 4lb penalty. Today he is penalty free and ran a storming race here last year in this very race, just pipped by the Australian raider, Ortensia . . . Kingsgate Native is in super form this season, having reclaimed his Temple Stakes title at Haydock Park a few months ago and just missed out on the Group 3 at Sandown Park in July. He won this race as a two-year-old in 2007. It would be truly fantastic to see him win again this year. He has his favoured partner on board again, Shane Kelly for Cheveley Park Stud . . . Fingers are firmly crossed . . .
