Multiple Group 1-winning racehorse trainer Robert Cowell has launched a new racing syndicate in association with Leicester Tigers and England scrum half Ben Youngs.

The “Tigers Syndicate” has been set up for followers of racing and rugby to combine their interests and meet other like-minded people.

Ben Youngs needs little introduction to rugby fans – he has made over 200 appearances for Premiership side Leicester Tigers and has over 70 caps for England. This will be his first foray into racehorse ownership.

“It’s something that I really want to be a part of. I think it is going to be a really enjoyable journey and I’m excited to see where it goes.”

Ben Youngs enjoyed a morning on the gallops at Cowell’s Newmarket stable, which has been home to some of Europe’s top sprinters in recent years. He was impressed by the fitness of the equine stars on show:

“Coming from an environment where I train every day, it is quite amazing to see how the horses are trained too. Seeing the facilities and training that goes into making them the athletes they are has been a great insight.”

Robert Cowell has enjoyed top-level success in Europe’s most prestigious sprint races – with the likes of Prohibit, Jwala and Goldream – and says the syndicate horse is likely to be a sprinter too.

“I quite like those strong, strapping individuals. The sort that could show up in a ruck – a bit like a rugby scrum player in a lot of ways.”

The horse (still to be purchased) will race around the Midlands area, so the players and syndicate members will not have to travel far to see it run.

OUTBACK TRAVELLER – Got a sprinkling of the Cowell magic to complete the transformation that has been notified by his 7f groundwork in just a couple of starts for this year, and now he’s here, in his proper playground, he could easily make into a Group-class sprinter.

If you were to take a look at Robert Cowell’s webstie you will find the motto ‘Sprint to Sucess’ and that is exactly what Cowell has done, establishing himself as a trainer with few, if any, superiors when it comes to getting the best out of his sprinter, as advertised by the exploits of Prohibit, Kingsgate, Nativem Monsieur Joe, Spirit Quartz and the ill-fated Jwala in recent years.

GOLDREAM – he’s joined a yard with few superiors when it come to training sprinters and he looks a horse to keep on side.
